1 Cord Tyre Fabric
A cotton cloth for motor tyres devised to eliminate the chafing action of threads crossing each other, as obtains in the " builder " fabric. The cloth is made with strong corded threads for the warp, with as little weft as possible. The picks vary from 4 to 10 per inch. The warp threads are laid parallel and vary from 22 to 25 per inch. The weft is a single end of 21's to 23's with 10 to 16 turns per inch and is only intended to retain the warp threads in parallel order. The warp takes all the strain, and is composed of two-ply threads, counts 23's, 5 X 3 ends twisted right, left, right. The single yarn is 16 to 20 turns, first doubling 5 ends up, 16 to 20 turns, and the finishing twisting 15 ends (5 X 3) is also 16 to 20 turns per inch. 4 Builder Fabric
This is the cotton cloth on which the motor tyre maker places the greatest reliance for the wearing qualities of the finished tyre. There are two main varieties, the square woven or " builder fabric," in which the warp and weft threads are practically equal, and the " cord " fabric, which is also square woven, but wherein the warp only is relied on for the strength or any other stress-resisting qualities that may be required. The builder fabric is tightly woven, giving it a stiff, hard feel, and is a superfine " duck." The standard fabric is 171/4 oz. per square yard, composed for 22's or 23's warp and weft yarns, 11-fold single ply, the twist in the single 14 to 15 turns, and in the ply yarn 4 to 5 turns per inch; 23 X 23-ends and picks per inch. 5 Music Cord
A plain weave cord fabric, all-cotton, made in several qualities. One quality is made 64 ends and 68 picks per inch, with an average of 8 cords per inch. The yarns are 30's warp, 32's weft, 4's cords, the cords are hard spun. They are woven 1 cord and 1 ground per dent. Shipped to several South American markets. -
6 Asylum Cord
A very strong cord fabric in 4 X 4 matt weave (see Matts) from doubled yams, all white or dyed. About 104 x 128 per inch with 4-ends and 4 picks together. Usually in narrow stripes. -
7 London Cord
A satin-faced Bedford cord fabric on six picks as the weave shown. This brings the face threads to the top giving better wear and appearance; \'s show cutting ends, plain weave, full squares are face ends, and /'s show the wadding ends (see Bedford Cords).

8 Gordon Cord
Name given to a fabric of a twilled cord character similar to a whipcord, 80 ends and 120 picks per inch, 2/60's cotton warp, 2/36's worsted weft. It is a high-class fabric and may be varied with plain stripes.

9 Breaker Fabric
The breaker fabric is applied to the motor tyre just beneath the tread and its purpose is to protect the building fabric and to distribute the shock the tyre necessarily receives on the road. It is more embedded in the rubber matrix than the others. The fabric is of a lower texture, giving more and larger interstices through which the rubber may pass, thus permitting the consolidation of the two rubber layers (the inner and outer surfaces) forming practically a solid rubber body where the greatest frictional wear is to be encountered. The average breaker fabric is similar in construction to the builder fabric in respect to yams employed. Usually about 10 to 11-oz. per square yard, mock leno weave, 16's-6-ends, 5/6 turns warp; 18's-18-ends, 4/5 turns weft; 28-ends X 7 picks per inch (see Breaker and Cord Tyre Fabric) -
10 Fustian Cord
A heavy type of velvet fabric, woven from all cotton in the design A. The ground or back weave is 2 & 2 twill. The binding of the pile picks is arranged so that when the pile is cut, short tufts alternate with longer tufts, and in the finished cloth the pile thereby acquires a rounded or cord appearance. This effect is enhanced when the cloth has more pile picks per inch of a finer weft, and then becomes suitable for use as dress goods. This is known as "velvet cord," a suitable make being 40 ends per inch of 2/60's warp, and 320 picks per inch of 28's weft.

11 Paris Cord
Derives its name from the city where it was first made. It is a heavy silk fabric, having small fine ribs running from selvedge to selvedge, about 16 cords to the inch. It was used for waistcoats and ties during the 18th century. Latterly the cord weft was of cotton. -
12 Bresilienne Cord
A fine silk dress fabric, having silk cords, woven in Lyons. Also used for vestings. -
13 Cossack Cord
A woollen twill fabric formerly made in England. It has fine stripes on a white ground. -
14 Ottoman Cord
A plain weave silk fabric like the Ottoman, but with the ribs down the piece instead of across. -
15 Patent Cord
An obsolete pile fabric, made with wool or cotton warp, wool weft, and a long wool pile. -
